Treble Register

The moderate slow tempo and soft dynamic in this piece make three variations of this broken octave possible, including a literal transcription and two additional variations. For faster tempos with more powerful dynamics, the variation featuring the repeated octave is recommended.

Attention should also be paid to the scoring of the duet phrase in the lower treble, as it positions the violas above the second violins. This arrangement has been done to leverage the unique tonal color of the viola in this register compared to the violin. This represents an application of the previously mentioned fact that high and low strings are more distinctive than the middle ones.
